독일학과 (Department of German Studies)

1. 학과 소개

독일학은 독일을 비롯한 유럽의 정신과 문화를 이해하고 수용하는 유럽학인 동시에, 인간 정신과 그 정신의 표현인 인간문화를 인식하고자 하는 정신과학 내지는 문화과학이기도 하다. 따라서 독일학 또한 인간의 삶 자체에 대한 진리에 도달하고자 하는 인문학 일반의 목표를 지향한다.

2. 교육목표

국제화시대에 필요하다는 인식 하에서 독일학과 대학원 과정은 독일학 분야와 독일어문학 분야로 크게 나누어 학습 연구할 기회를 제공하고 있다. 특히, 유럽 통합과 독일 통일 이 후 독일에 대한 전반적 이해와 지식 습득이 강화되어야 할 필요성에서 독일학과의 대학원 과정은 독일의 역사, 정치, 경제, 사회, 교육, 산업, 예술, 문학, 언어 등 모든 문화 현상을 포괄하고 있으며, 대학원 졸업 후 취업이나 독일 유학을 겨냥한 교량 학문적 역할을 강화하고 그에 합당한 인재 양성을 하는 것이 대학원 과정의 교육목표이다.

3. 주요 연구분야

유럽연합의 핵심국가인 독일의 국어인 독일어는 오스트리아, 스위스, 리히텐슈타인 등의 공용어로서, 네덜란드, 벨기에, 룩셈부르크, 이탈리아 및 동구권의 여러 국가 등에서도 통용되고 있으며, 독일의 막강한 경제력을 바탕으로 하여 세계의 핵심 언어권을 형성하고 있다. 특히 1990년 평화통일을 이룬 독일은 2002년부터 통용된 강력한 화폐 유로(EURO)화를 바탕으로 세계경제를 선도하고 있다. 따라서 독일을 중심으로 한 유럽에 대한 정보를 수집하고 분석하는 능력을 포함한 독일학과 전공지식에 더하여, 누구에게나 열려 있는 복수전공 학문에 관한 지식, 의사소통 중심의 영어 능력, 컴퓨터 활용 능력 등을 겸비한다면 국제화시대를 선도할 수 있게 될 것이다.

4. 진출분야 및 전망

방송국, 신문사, 항공사, 관공서, 무역회사, 독일어권 회사(훽스트, 바스프, 지멘스, 바이엘, 오스람 등)의 한국지사 등으로 진출하거나 교육계에서 활동할 수 있다. 또한 등록금이 거의 없는 독일의 대학에서 관심학문을 계속할 수 있다.

Department of German Studies

1. Introduction

Department of German studies (M. A. Course) offers two majors curricula 「German Language」 and 「German Literature」. The 「German Language」 curriculum emphasizes the German expertise with proficiency in spoken German, understanding of German society, history, politics, education and economics. Curriculum for the 「German Literature」 is designed to cultivate students in the area of German literature and linguistics. The department makes effort to train students with both personal integrity and intellectual capacity for society needs in diverse professions through multi- and inter-disciplinary studies. For example, proficiencies in English and computer applications coupled with skills in German would offer wider career opportunities for the graduates.

2. Educational Objectives

Department of German Studies (M. A. Course) aims at grammatical and text analyzing competency for the better understanding of German culture as well as the mutual communication skills for interpretation of the primary German literature and its secondary references exploring the literary and semiotic phenomena, which leads to better understanding of German and European cultures enabling students to accommodate the German culture in the world of diverse cultures.
 

3. Education & Research field

Department of German Studies (M. A. Course) offers three major parts: 「German Literature and Literary Studies」(Literaturwissenschaft), 「German Language and Linguistics」(Sprachwissenschaft) and 「German Cultural Studies」(Kulturwissenschaft). With these curricula, we offer basic knowledges about Germany in general, and more specialized learning about German history, polictics, economy, society, education, industry, art, literature and language etc..

4. Postgraduate career options

After graduation from the Department of German program, one may deepen his study in graduate schools here at home or abroad. He/she may work for a German corporation or its domestic branch, journalism and media profession, trade company, broadcast station, airlines, governmental agency, or interpretation and translation businesses, etc. One can also get teaching licenses while still in the departmental course program. There are opportunities for longer term German internships overseas.
