1. 학과 소개

수의학과에서는 반려동물, 산업동물 및 야생동물의 질병을 예방하고 치료하는 본연의 기본적인 분야 외에도 의약품의 효능과 안전성평가, 식품위생 및 환경위생 분야의 안전성 관리, 동물실험을 통한 기초의학 및 생명공학 연구, 전염병의 방역 등 다양한 분야에 대해 연구를 한다.

 

2. 교육목표

동물 복지를 우선시하며 임상수의학 분야의 이론과 실제를 끊임없이 연구하는 훌륭한 인격을 지닌 수의사를 양성하고, 유전공학 및 생물공학 등 기초수의학 생명과학분야에 종사할 우수한 전문 인력을 길러냄으로써 국가와 사회, 나아가 인류의 보건에 기여, 공헌할 수 있는 세계적인 경쟁력을 갖춘 수의사를 배출함을 목표로 한다.

 

3. 주요 연구분야

반려동물, 산업동물 및 야생동물의 질병을 예방하고 치료하는 본연의 기본적인 분야 외에도 의약품의 효능과 안전성평가, 식품위생 및 환경위생 분야의 안전성 관리, 동물실험을 통한 기초의학 및 생명공학 연구, 조류인플루엔자(AI), 구제역 및 광우병과 같은 국가경제에 위협이 되는 해외악성전염병의 방역 등 사회적으로 다양한 분야에서 요구하는 학문을 교육?연구하고 있다.

 

4. 진출분야 및 전망

동물 질병의 진료, 전염병의 방역, 식품 및 환경 보건 방면 뿐 아니라 동물복제를 통한 희귀 유용물질 및 질환모델 생산, 줄기세포 연구와 같은 원천기술 개발, 국내외 야생동물 질병 진료 및 생태관리, 의약바이오 산업 등 수의사의 진출 분야는 무궁무진하며 수의학 전문인력에 대한 사회적 요구도가 높아지고 있다.

 

 

Department of Veterinary Medicine

1. Introduction

Department of Veterinary Medicine is dedicated to the efficacy evaluation and safety regulation of medicines, food and environmental hygiene management, basic biomedical studies using animals, quarantine for infectious diseases as well as disease prevention and treatment of animals.

 

2. Educational Objectives

To foster competitive veterinary professionals to contribute to the nation, society and humanity by educating and training future veterinarians who prioritize animal welfare and advance clinical veterinary medicine, and biomedical professionals who dedicate basic sciences such as genetic engineering and biotechnology.

 

3. Education & Research field

Department of Veterinary Medicine is dedicated to education, research and professional practice required by society: 1) disease prevention and treatment of companion animals, industrial livestock, and wildlife, 2) the efficacy evaluation and safety regulation of medicines, 3) food and environmental hygiene management, 4) basic biomedical studies using animals, 5) quarantine for foreign infectious diseases which can threaten the national economy such as Avian Influenza(AI), Foot-and-Mouth disease (FMD), and Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE).

 

4. Career opportunities

The career opportunities for veterinarians are promising due to the increasing social demand for veterinary professionals. Veterinarians can contribute advances in various fields such as animal disease control, infectious disease prevention, innovative drug production and disease model development by animal cloning, cutting edge technology such as stem cell research, quarantines for domestic and foreign wildlife diseases, and the medical bio-industry.
